DATA ACQUISITION AND PROVIDER MANAGEMENT

OBJECTIVES

The Data Acquisition and Provider Management program provides a comprehensive statistical data collection service for the ABS that also encompasses administrative data acquisition. The program is leading the review, development and implementation of provider management strategies for the ABS. In undertaking these functions it supports the ABS's objectives by providing a high quality, timely and cost effective service while maintaining the trust and cooperation of providers through a range of measures, including: efficient and effective data collection operations; developing and maintaining a skilled and committed home and office-based interviewer workforce; upholding the confidentiality of information provided to the ABS; and continually improving processes and instruments to improve ABS interaction with providers.

OUTPUTS


The main outputs of the program are:

  • data collection and capture including the capabilities, procedures and instruments for all ABS collections
  • an active provider engagement strategy to ensure a continued high level of public trust and provider cooperation
  • provision of the central administrative data acquisition service for the ABS
  • sample management for ABS household surveys
  • advice to subject matter areas on data acquisition strategies encompassing online forms and other modes.

DEVELOPMENTS


The main medium-term developments in the program are focused around the ongoing transformation of collection processes and facilities. Key aspects of this modernisation are to:
  • consolidate operations with an increased focus on improving provider experience, including the relocation of many functions to a new ABS office in Geelong - due June 2017
  • continue to achieve benefits for the ABS and providers of household and business collection through improvements to the usability, functionality and editing capabilities of collection modes - ongoing
  • further expand online reporting capability for business collections - ongoing
  • optimise the Monthly Population Survey online form and implement online reporting capability for other household surveys - ongoing
  • implement a new ABS data acquisition business model to harmonise business and household data collection and respondent interactions - ongoing
  • establish requirements for enterprise capabilities to meet data acquisition functions - ongoing
  • commence integration of online reporting capabilities with foundation infrastructure - ongoing.
